Telecom Adopts Non-Payment Policy
[Creation Date: 15-Jun-00]
Telecommunication Services will shut off services for non-payment, in accordance with a newly adopted non-payment policy.
"It's a policy that we hope we never have to use," said Phil Pelletier, TelCom Customer Service manager.
In the past, TelCom had no recourse for non-payment on telephone accounts. The new policy is intended to keep costs down by making sure everyone pays for telephone service. It covers telephones, network access, long distance authorization codes, voice mail and calling cards.
Accounts will be shut-off after three months of non-payment (three warning notices will be sent). Customers paying for telephone services using grant accounts need to be especially careful, since those accounts have expiration dates and limited amounts of funding.
If service is shut off, the customer will have to pay the standard fee for service reactivation, in addition to previously accrued costs.
If you have additional questions about the policy, please contact the Telecom Systems Office at 545-5737.
