PAETEC to Provide Residential Long Distance Service

[Creation Date: 04-Jun-04]

AT&T ACUS is no longer providing residential long distance telephone service. PAETEC Communications will be the new long distance carrier for the 2004 Fall semester. In the meantime, Residential Telecom is offering a pre-paid calling card for summertime long distance needs. Local telephone service for campus residents remains unchanged.

PAETEC will begin providing long distance service sometime in late August. The standard calling plan is 6.9 cents-per-minute for all in-state and domestic long distance calls. There is also a 2.9 cents-per-minute calling plan available (with a $5.95 monthly fee). Plus, low international rates are available.

Until the new long distance service is available, residents are encouraged to use the UMass Minutes pre-paid calling card, which should have been received in the mail. This card includes 10 free minutes of long distance calling within the United States, and can be recharged easily. It offers a 2.9 cents-per-minute domestic calling rate, and low-cost international rates.

If you did not receive a UMass Minutes calling card, or need additional information about residential long distance calling, please logon to the Residential Telecom Web site (http://telecom.oit.umass.edu/students/) or call 545-2103.
