International Calling Rates Cut
[Creation Date: 08-Nov-01]
International calling rates for faculty and staff at the university have been cut, thanks to a deal between Telecommunication Services and international long distance provider eMeritus.
"We've been working with our carriers to come up with lower rates," Telecom Director Randy Sailer said. The cost of international calls for the campus had been around $50,000 per year. The new rates should cut that cost significantly, Sailer said.
A call to China, for example, used to cost about $1.16 per minute; the new rate is 50 cents per minute. A call to Germany was 42 cents per minute, now it costs 13 cents per minute. Charges to the most frequently called countries can be found on the Telecom Web site.
The new rates are effective 24 hours per day, seven days a week. They will start appearing on the November phone bill. If you have any questions about the new rates, please contact the Telecom Billing Office at 5-4022.
