When You Move In
You and your roommate(s) share telephone service and are responsible for furnishing your room with one touch tone telephone set (telephone and line cord).
The university does not recommend the use of cordless telephones because of privacy issues and other functional problems in a residence hall environment.
When you move in, all you have to do to activate the telephone service is plug your telephone into the upper left telephone wall jack if you are in a residence hall, or into the upper wall jack if you are in a Family Housing apartment. There is no charge to activate your telephone service.
Residence Hall: Plug telephone into upper left wall jack. (The other jacks are for ethernet access to the UMass network.)
|
Family Housing: Plug telephone into upper wall jack. (The lower jack is for dial-up access to the UMass network.)

If you check into your room and find that your telephone jack is not working, please follow our troubleshooting instructions. If your telephone still is not working, please use a neighbor's telephone to call Residential Telecom, 545-2103.
